Sadly there's not Full Scottish Breakfast today, since I am not in Maryland!
In the meantime take a listen to the new single 'Nine Lives' from Primes. I've not yet featured this band on the show yet, but definitely one to look out for in the future!
Or have a listen to the new release from Dunfermline band Moonlight Zoo - 'Survive' who have made it to the final three of the Hard Rock Battle Of The Bands and will be performing tonight at the Paramount Theater in NYC! Wishing them the best of luck!
Today? On Friday?
You heard that right! Full Scottish Breakfast moves to Fridays at 5pm for the WMUC summer season. Tune in at www.wmuc.umd.edu for your weekly fill of Scottish music!
(and yes it can still be breakfast at 5pm!)

Hello!
It's been a while since I posted a blog on the website, but you can be on the look out for a lot more content coming up over the summer. I'm here today to provide an update on a number of Scottish artists that are going to be touring the US this summer!
Lewis Capaldi
Lewis Capaldi has taken the UK by storm in the last year - from 'Someone You Loved' taking the number one spot in the UK official chart to having the fastest selling album of 2019 so far. His incredible voice is not something to be missed (along with his amazing instagram stories). He kicks of his US tour next week and, with a break for his summer sessions in Edinburgh, will be here until October.
More Info: https://tickets.lewiscapaldi.com/
DC Dates: June 3rd - U Street Music Hall (SOLD OUT), October 12 - 9:30 Club
Skerryvore
The Scottish celtic rock band from the islands of Scotland will be coming to the US later this year on the back of a UK tour. The band will be in US and Canada this summer, for some festivals before returning in the early fall with a more extensive list of cities
More Info: https://skerryvore.com/tour/
MD Date: September 27 - Amp by Strathmore, North Bethesda
Red Hot Chilli Pipers
While their longer US tour happened earlier this year, the bagpipe rock collective will be in the US again for highland games and Irish festivals in August and September this year.
More Info: https://rhcp.scot/locations/america/
CHVRCHES
Another band which had a longer US tour last year will be back for a few gigs and special events from the end of June. Sadly no dates near DC this time round...
More Info: https://chvrch.es/#shows
Catholic Action and We Were Promised Jetpacks
The Edinburgh indie band We Were Promised Jetpacks (which I think is the best band name I've ever heard) will in the US be tour with the Glasgow rock band Catholic Action from the beginning of June, with their penultimate gig in DC at the end of July
More Info: https://www.wewerepromisedjetpacks.com/
DC Date: July 30 - U Street Music Hall
Daniel Sloss
On the stand-up comedian scene, Daniel Sloss has shot to fame in recent years - with two Netflix specials available (which I highly recommend!). He will be returning to the US with his unique style of stand-up from mid-June with a two week stint at the Soho Playhouse in New York City. He'll continue around the US until beginning of August - the closest to DC being a show in Philadelphia.
More Info: https://danielsloss.com/tour/
PA Date: July 27 - The Filmore, Philadelphia
Full Scottish Breakfast returns tomorrow at 11am on WMUC-FM! Tune in on 88.1FM in College Park or at wmuc.umd.edu.
Alas, due to spring break at the university there will be no show this week or next week.
Watch out for more content here though and I'll return with more new Scottish music on March 30!
Hello!
It's been a little while since I posted here, as I've been working on updating the website! I hope you like the updated design - I think it should be a little easier to navigate.
A change I will point out is that the latest show can now always be accessed right from the top bar - you no longer have to wait for me to upload it! Well...almost always - you won't be able to access from that link from midnight on Saturday until the show starts later in the morning. Older shows (from season 3 onwards) are still available, now under the archives tab at the top of the page.
I'm still working on a good way to document playlists so stay tuned for that! In the meantime you can check out recent playlists on the WMUC website.
Finally, look out for more blogs and content coming soon! Posts will no longer be tied to a Saturday archive so they'll be a little more sporadic, but still roughly once a week.
As always let me know if you have any comments or suggestions! You can reach me via email at craig@scottishbreakfast.org.

Here's Season 2 Episode 3 or 'The Haggis Episode'
Not much in the way of new music this week, but we did talk about The Scottish Bard - Rabbie Burns!

Burns Supper
A Burns Supper is held to celebrate the life and works of Rabbie (Robert) Burns – a famous poet from Scotland. He wrote lots of famous poems including ‘To a Mouse’, from which the title of ‘Of Mice and Men’ is taken. Each year people around the world (but especially in Scotland) celebrate his life and work. Usually this happens on the 25th of January, but Burns Suppers can be held at any time of the year. I played some of Burns' work on the show today and also recited the 'Address To The Haggis!' Listen in to hear more (around the one hour mark)

Apologies for the lateness of this post - here is the archive post from last week (January 12th)!
The first full two hour show we packed a lot of music in this week! We covered Scottish dance music, some Scottish rap as well as the usual favorites!
New Web Address!
Scottish Dance Music
I spoke quite a bit about Scottish dancing and Scottish dance music on the show today. If you're interested in getting involved in some Scottish dancing around the area, you can check out the DC branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) website. There is a group that meets in Greenbelt on Tuesday nights or if you're a member of the UMD community you can join on Wednesdays at 7pm in the Math Rotunda. Contact me if you would like more information.
It was surprising to me when moving here, just how popular Scottish dancing is in the US, even with people who have no Scottish heritage. It's a lot of fun and a great way to be active and meet people!

New Music
A quite time for new Scottish music right now, but that doesn't mean the songs that we are getting aren't incredible. Karen Matheson this week released a cover of Deacon Blue's Dignity - wonderful acoustic rendition.
We also had another reimagined song from Fatherson, from their EP release of alternative versions to songs from their 2018 album 'Sum Of All Your Parts'. These slowed down, but not completely acoustic songs are definitely worth a listen and a wonderfully different vibe to their usual sound.

Hello again and welcome to season 2 of Full Scottish Breakfast!
After some station difficulties which looked like today's show wasn't going to happen, the first Full Scottish Breakfast on 88.1FM finally started at 11:30am this morning. Throughout the whole of January you can hear the show at the later start time of 11am for an extended two hour show on WMUC-FM!
Today's show was a typical start-of-season variety show with music from strong female solo artist KT Tunstall, Amy Macdonald; folks singers Emily Smith, Julie Fowlis and Karine Polwart; and of course the mandatory first episode Proclaimers song.

Not much new music for this show although we did have the Full Scottish Breakfast first play of a Fratellis single from September. Originally included as a bonus track to the Japanese version of the March album 'In Your Own Sweet Time', Let's Go is definitely a strong song to rock along to (I have to admit I was dancing around the studio) showing the band still has the powerful vibe 13 years after the Chelsea Dagger classic.
Today also included the second single from the late November SAINT PHNX 2-track release - 'Death Of Me'. The darker side to the other song 'Deadmen', it's definitely worth a listen. The music video to the track was just released yesterday and you can find it here.
I hope you can join next week where I'll be diving more into Scottish Dance music!
