Happy Thanksgiving!
After feasting on turkey and stuffing during the week, you'll surely be ready for a Full Scottish Breakfast, right?
Today we heard some Scottish Folk music by Emily Smith and Gary Innes, a wonderful piece combing spoken word and music by Karine Polwart and Pippa Murphy, and then on to music by incredible Scottish female solo artists Annie Lennox, Annie, Booth, and Eddie Reader.
If you enjoyed Skerryvore's Take My Hand, I definitely recommend watching the very wholesome and wonderful music video for this song!
And don't forget if you want to see what Scottish music I'm listening to right now, you can check out the Full Scottish Breakfast Favorites playlist!
What's a Caman?
Today's first track centered around Gary Innes' retirement from shinty. Bu what exactly is that? Shinty is a sport somewhat akin to field hockey, but with several differences played in the highlands of Scotland (it was played elsewhere in the UK in the past, but not so much now). His song 'The Caman Man' wonderfully shows the community and meaning the sport has to people.
